PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
It is hard to believe that it is already August. It seems that the summer came and passed far too fast. After the installation of the new officers in June, and taking a brief hiatus from FES in July, I am looking forward to the events and activities of our chapter for the coming year. I would like to again thank Walt Gilcher, PE for his dedication and leadership, making this past year a success for our organization.
In my first President’s Message, I would like to state how honored I am to be associated with the members of the Calusa Chapter. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to get know many fine individuals since I became involved in FES.
And that is the message that I would like to make with this newsletter: that there are many fine individuals in our local chapter of FES. I hope that I can encourage each of you to take the time to get involved in FES this year. The best way, in my opinion, is to make time to come to the dinner meetings and social events that are planned for this coming year. I feel that you will find it invaluable, to your career and development as a professional, to get to know better the consulting and government engineers that you work with every day.
With that being said, David Romano, PE is hard at work preparing a schedule of dinner meeting programs for the year. Our goal is to make these meetings interesting and efficient, so that we can get together and socialize, and then get home to our families. Look for the complete list in coming newsletters. Our first dinner meeting of the coming year will be September 30th, at Fiddlesticks Country Club in south Fort Myers. The speaker will be Commissioner Andy Coy. I hope that you will take the time out of your busy schedule to come join us.
Another important event that is coming soon is our 18th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament. The Golf Tournament is extremely important to our organization because it is the largest fund raising event for the scholarships the Chapter issues at the end of the year. This year's tournament will be held on October 16th at Stonebridge Country Club in north Naples. This tournament is our chance to get out and have fun, and to raise enough money to make a real impact on the lives and educations of several of our local youth. Our goal is to raise at least $6,000 to award to our engineering scholarship recipients next year. Use the tournament registration form in this newsletter. Contact Dan Waters, PE at (239) 649-4040 for sponsorship information, to sign up a team, or to volunteer to help on the day of the tournament.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events.
John English, PE

MATHCOUNTS
After coming from a record year, MathCounts is quickly becoming a major event for the Calusa Chapter. This year FGCU is providing a ballroom for the contestants rather than individual rooms. The event is scheduled for February 12th and promises to be better than ever. The only reason this event won’t be the best in the state is if we don’t get volunteers to help. Please mark your calendars and call Morgan Dickinson, PE at (239) 649-4040 to sign up NOW. |
