PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
The August Dinner Meeting at the Strand was well attended by members and their guests, as might be expected with Jim Mudd, the Collier County Manager as the guest speaker. Mr. Mudd expounded on the role of the professional engineer in government and detailed some amazing predictions on growth in Collier County. If his predictions come true - we will all be busy for the next decade. I want to thank all of those who attended the meeting, along with Jim Mudd for making the Calusa Chapter one of the best.
Next month’s dinner meeting will also be an exciting event with Kelly Townsend as the guest speaker. Kelly is a powerful speaker that Empowers People and Organizations to Fulfill New Possibilities. With the hectic business schedules we all have, Kelly vows to gives us the inspiration we need to get through another day and improve our business relations with clients and fellow workers. Please sign up for this meeting, scheduled for October 20th at Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers.
Other coming events this fall include the Golf Tournament on October 15th at Stonebridge Golf Club, a presentation by Ralph Verrastro from Delta Engineering on techniques used by Land Developers for minor bridge design and the Holiday Party with APWA, ITE and ASCE in December. Come on out and meet the new members in Calusa Chapter and enjoy the festivities.

New Year, New Members
FES began another exciting year of membership on October 1st. We need your assistance in promoting FES to the entire engineering community. New members benefit from chapter programs, leadership opportunities, networking, building awareness about the profession, legislative gains, and that’s just the beginning. Membership applications are available at www.fleng.org or contact the Member Services Department at 850-224-7121. Each new member strengthens the Society.
ACEC Florida Scholarships
The ACEC Florida (also known as PEPP Practice Section of FES) Scholarship will honor one Florida college student expressing interest and commitment to the business and management of the engineering profession. To qualify, a student must be a US citizen pursuing a Bachelor's degree in an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) - approved engineering program or in an accredited land-surveying program. Students must be entering their junior, senior, or fifth year of college to qualify.
One statewide winner will be determined and awarded an ACEC Florida Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. That scholarship recipient will then be forwarded to ACEC for consideration for the ACEC Scholarships: $5,000 for the ACEC Scholar of the Year and $3,000 for the ACEC College of Fellows Award. Visit http://www.fleng.org/images/files/ACEC06.DOC to download the application. Application deadline: October 14, 2005.
Please pass this information out to the students in your area. If you have any questions, may email Samantha Hobbs at shobbs@fleng.org
