PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Thank you for your participation. We have a great itinerary slated for ’07-’08. The fall season
is to kick off with a social event a Dwyer’s Pub. This is a joint event with Florida
Environmental Association of Professional (FEAP). Last year, it was a great hit and I’m
looking forward to another stellar turn out. Special thanks to the FES Ways and Means
Chairman has, Allyson Swanson, has scheduled the FES Golf Tournament for Saturday
October 13th at Heritage Bay Golf and Country Club. Dan Waters, the chapter Vice-President,
has tentatively scheduled many more interesting events to attend.
Looking back over the ‘06-‘07 administration, we had a great year with many interesting
speakers and topics of discussions. In the Fall of 2006, FES Calusa Chapter donated tenthousand
dollars to Gulf Coast University. Dr. Blanchard attended the meeting to accept the
donation. This past year, the membership was fortunate to have Stan Cann with FDOT and
Rony Joel, Marco Island City Engineer speak at one of our meetings as well.
For those members and guests that joined the June ‘07 dinner meeting, thank you for your
support and participation. The meeting included the local student scholarship recipients, local
award recognition, officer installation ceremony, and the speaker was the FES State President
Yassi Myers with USR Corporation.
Chelsea McQuade was selected as our four year, $1000 per year, scholarship recipient.
Chelsea plans on attending Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall. The two, one time
$500 scholarship recipients are Lucio Martinez and Tyler Howlin. They both plan to attend the
University of Florida in the fall. The membership had fun with the students, we had them come
up for a photo opportunity, and kid around with them by telling them that the money went
directly to the university (which is true). They were great sports about the whole ordeal and
let’s wish them well on their pursuits.
The meeting then turned to the FES Calusa Chapter Awards Ceremony. The awards ceremony
started with recognizing Rebecca King of Wilson Miller for Young Engineer of the Year.
Rebecca’s qualifications for this award include high motivation, technical abilities,
contributions to FES by chairing the MathCounts competition, and contributions to other
charitable organizations. The second award presented went to Dan Craig with Dave Douglas &
Associates for Outstanding Technical Achievement. Dan’s body work was recognized and
includes practicing civil engineering in the Lee County area since the mid eighties. The third
award presented was to Don DeBerry with Lee County Division of Transportation. Don’s
projects and achievements are well known in the Lee County public works arena. In addition
to FES honoring Don’s achievement, Lee County published a press release on the award.
A special thanks goes out to Fermin Diaz, President of Wilson Miller; Dave Douglas, President
of Dave Douglas & Associates; Bob Murray, Senior Vice President of Hole Montes and
Associates; and, Scott Gilbertson, Director of Lee County Division of Transportation for their
participation in the ceremony and honoring the award recipients.
Last on the agenda was the officer installation ceremony. I’d like to welcome and thank each
of the new officers. Elizabeth Fountain of Q Grady Minor, who will be serving as past-
President; Dan Waters of Wilson Miller taking the position of Vice-President; Marlene Messam
of Collier County serving as Secretary; and, Pat Day with TKW installed as Treasurer.
With the new administration, I’m looking forward to a great year including well-invested social
events, meetings with great speakers and topics of discussion, and worthy fund raiser events.
The newly installed officers, directors, and myself look forward to seeing you at future
meetings and events.
Thank you again for your participation!
Kind Regards,
Pete Pellerito, PE
President – Calusa Chapter

degree of merit and ingenuity. The program provides Florida engineering firms a chance to showcase the praiseworthy work of engineers,
who are the backbone of their companies' success. In addition to the recognition from their peers, winners receive immeasurable publicity
through the year, which helps to further strengthen client and firm relations.
Entries are rated on the basis of original or innovative application of new or existing techniques; future value to the engineering profession;
social, economic, and sustainable design considerations; complexity; and how successfully the project exceeds the needs, including time and
