PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The October Dinner Meeting was held at the Fiddlesticks Golf and Country Club and we had an excellent presentation by Mr. Stanley Cann, P.E., FDOT District One Secretary. Attendees at the meeting were informed about the status of the expansion plans for Interstate 75 and how the project is being phased and staffed. This is truly a very important and needed Interstate improvement project for Southwest Florida. The presentation was very informative and Mr. Cann's participation is appreciated.

Our chapter also held its 20th Annual Golf Tournament on October 14th at the Arrowhead Golf Club in North Naples in efforts to support our scholarship program. A total of 25 teams participated and the fund raising results exceeded our expectations for this year. The winning teams for this year are as follows:

First Place: WilsonMiller Team (Dan Waters, John English, David Dunnavant, and Lee Cutshall)

Second Place: Vanasse and Daylor Team (John Musser, Donna Langford, Herb Martin and Jay Westerndorf)

The success of this event is greatly due to all the sponsors involved. The chapter would like to thank all the Hole Sponsors and donators, whom are listed on a separate page within the newsletter. Your donation is vital to the scholarship program of the Chapter and the support year-round is appreciated. The Chapter would not be as successful in membership and event attendance without the support of all the local companies and engineering firms. Thank you!

I would also like to thank Allyson Swanson, E.I., Ways and Means Director, for organizing and coordinating the entire golf tournament event. She did an outstanding job!

Upcoming events include the Holiday gathering with other engineering organizations and a joint event with the local chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to celebrate their 30h anniversary and the engineering profession in Southwest Florida. Dates and locations for these events will be outlined in future newsletters. Thanks again for all your support and I look forward to seeing you at future meetings and events.

Florida Engineering Foundation asks...
Did you know???

As a result of a recently passed tax law, if you are over 70 ½ years old and are taking a mandatory IRA deduction in either 2006 or 2007 you can have a portion of that mandatory IRA withdrawal sent directly to a 501C3 non-profit, public charity. The taxable portion of your mandatory IRA withdrawal will be reduced by the amount of your charitable contribution. The Florida Engineering Foundation is a qualified 501C3 non-profit public charity, and would welcome your donation to support our engineering education programs. For more information on this new tax opportunity please contact Shawn Stewart, shawn@fleng.org, at FES headquarters.
