Social Meeting with Florida Association of
Environmental Professionals
Thursday, October 12th at Fiddlesticks Country Club in
Fort Myers |
|
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
The September Dinner Meeting was held at the Fiddlestick Golf
and Country Club and we had an excellent presentation by Dr.
Susan Blanchard, Founding Director and Professor of the U.A.
Whitaker School of Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Attendees at the meeting included several professors from the
School of Engineering and several students enrolled in the
Engineering program. The highlight of meeting was Dr.
Blanchard's presentation on the developments during the first
year of the beginning of School of Engineering. It was promising
to learn that the number of students enrolled in the program has
exceeded the anticipated amount. It was also exciting to learn
about the new building for the School of Engineering and the
progress of its design.
At the end of the meeting, I was honored to present Dr.
Blanchard with a check in the amount of $10,000 as a donation to
assist with the furnishing of the student club spaces within the
new building. The new building will include meeting spaces for
such student clubs such as the Student Chapters of Florida
Engineering Society and American Society of Civil Engineers. The
meeting provided a great opportunity for our Chapter members to
meet and speak with the Engineering Professors and students.
I also had the privilege of presenting Past Calusa Chapter
President, Mr. David Romano, P.E., with a plaque of appreciation
for his service as President during the 2005-2006 year. David
was an excellent President and served the Chapter well,
especially with promoting the Chapter's activities and
increasing membership. Thank you David and I hope I can continue
the Chapter's success.
Our next dinner meeting will be held on October 12th at
Fiddlesticks Golf and Country Club with guest speaker, Mr.
Stanley M. Cann, P.E., District One Secretary of the Florida
Department of Transportation. Mr. Cann is planning to discuss
such topics as the design and phasing for Interstate 75. I
encourage all members to attend this dinner meeting.
Other upcoming activities include the 20th Annual FES Calusa
Chapter Golf Tournament, scheduled on October 14th at the
Arrowhead Golf Club in North Naples ( a copy of the sign up
sheet is included in the newsletter). We are in need of golf
teams to participate and sponsors. This event is critical in
supporting our Engineering Student Scholarship Program and it is
great time as well. So, please contact Ms. Allyson Swanson, E.I.
at (239)-649-4040 if you are interested in participating. We are
also working on scheduling a joint event with the local chapter
of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to celebrate
their 25th anniversary and the engineering profession in
Southwest Florida. The date and location will be forthcoming in
future newsletters. Thanks again for all your support and I look
forward to seeing you at future meetings and events.

You will learn what circumstances caused certain portions of the Rule to
come into being and the most common errors engineers make in following the
rules.
For Stormwater Design Pitfalls:
This course provides a detailed review of common engineering
pitfalls experienced in the design of stormwater management systems. From
the proper design of control structures to understanding the selection of
runoff curve numbers and the proper selection of peak rate factors - your
time will be well spent.
For Stormwater Hydraulics:
This course is about stormwater systems. The focus is on hydraulic
design aspects relating to site-scale designs. Although this is a fast-paced
review, you will find an abundance of reference materials full of examples
on the CD that comes with the DVD.
